Depression doesn't always look like the inability to get out of bed. For many people it looks like getting up, showing up, and doing what's expected — while feeling strangely absent from it all. It can show up as a flatness that's hard to describe, a muted quality to things that used to bring pleasure, or a persistent sense that you're moving through your life without really inhabiting it. Some people aren't sure "depression" is exactly the right word for what they're experiencing. But something has been off long enough that it's starting to feel like the new normal.

But depression rarely appears out of nowhere either. It often reflects something real — about what's been lost, what's missing, what's been set aside for so long it stopped feeling like a choice, or a version of yourself that got buried under everything you've had to manage. Sometimes it's the pattern's way of saying that something needs to change, even when nothing feels possible. In our work together, we don't try to fix or eliminate the depression. We work to understand what it might be communicating — and what it would take to feel genuinely present in your own life again. Not performing okay, but actually being okay.

I offer depression therapy in Austin, Texas and via telehealth across the state for adults who are ready to look beneath the surface — not just wait for things to lift on their own.
