my approach
what’s it like in session?
My role is to create a safe space for you to explore and process. I get curious about your journey and how it feels to be you. This might involve talking, sitting with your feelings, or discussing concepts that might relate to you, like trauma, family dynamics, social & cultural expectations, and human development.
I think my clients would agree that:
I often ask “How does that feel in your body?”
When I have a guess about some dots that may connect, I’ll say my guess could be wrong & that we can always come up with other guesses together
I’m comfortable sitting in silence
I don’t give advice, but I am open to sharing my personal reactions/feelings about your story if that’s something you want
Whatever your values & manner of seeing the world, that’s the guide I use for how to approach the concerns bringing you into therapy
framework & modalities
You are the expert in your own life, and I'm here to help you reach your goals—not the goals I set for you. Whatever your values, your experiences, and your vision for your life: I’m into it. I want to understand how to see the world through your eyes. If you're struggling to express what you want, we can start there to help you find your voice.
Some of the approaches I use include relational cultural theory, systems theory, narrative therapy, somatic & experiential approaches, parts work, and expressive arts therapy.
